Michelle Moon’s home searched by police in connection with £ 200 million fraud investigation Covid LPE

Police raided the home of Tory’s peer Michelle Moon as part of an investigation into several million-pound PPE deals involving a company she has ties to.

The National Crime Agency (NRA) has launched an investigation into the deals of PPE Medpro, a company set up by Baroness Monet’s business partner.

Her £ 11million home in London, owned by an offshore company linked to her husband’s Isle of Man business, is among a number of properties NCA officials have attacked this week.

Understandably, a special unit within the NCA has been investigating the allegations for a year, reports The Mirror.

PPE Medpro won more than £ 200 million in contracts for Covid from the Ministry of Health in 2020, after Baroness Monet directed the company to the cabinet through the so-called “VIP strip”.

The orders were carried out at four addresses on the Isle of Man on Wednesday, including the Douglas headquarters of the Knox group of companies, which was founded and chaired by the husband of Moon businessman Doug Barrowman.

No arrests were made during the simultaneous attacks in London and the Isle of Man, but officers seized documents and electronic devices.

Isle of Man police confirmed they were involved in coordinated attacks on Wednesday.

A spokesman said: “Isle of Man police, in support of the ongoing NCA investigation, have carried out search warrants at four Mann addresses. No arrests have been made.”

An NCA spokesman said: “The NCA does not routinely confirm or deny the existence of investigations or the names of those that may or may not be investigated.”

But the investigation is believed to be carried out by a team of officials with experience in cross-border and financial crime.

But the NCA has no jurisdiction over the Isle of Man, which is a self-governing dependence on the British Crown and a well-known tax haven.

The Ministry of Health is in dispute with PPE Medpro over millions of surgical gowns it bought for £ 122 million in 2020.

In total, PPE Medpro earned more than £ 200 million in PPE contracts at the start of the pandemic. It is not known which deal or deals with PPE Medpro are being investigated by the NCA.

PPE Medpro was set up in May 2020, weeks before securing the first of two PPE contracts for surgical masks and gowns worth £ 203 million.

Asked about the connection at the time, Baroness Monet’s office replied: “Well done to PPE Medpro for delivering vital NHS equipment to fight this terrible virus!”

But her spokeswoman added: “Besides, Baroness Monet has no comment, as she has no role or participation in PPE Medpro.

After it became public last year that she directed PPE Medpro to the cabinet using the “VIP tape”, Baroness Monet admitted that she had taken a “very simple, lonely and short step”, but insisted she had done nothing more to of LPS Medpro ”.

But in leaked WhatsApp messages, Maun was asked what size dresses are required under the agreement of the Ministry of Health and replied: “We are just about to take off by plane. The dimensions are in order. We are waiting for the official software [purchase order]that must come today. “

Monet’s lawyers said she could not be expected to comment on “unknown and unrecognized WhatsApp messages allegedly sent 19 months ago.”

Sources told the Guardian that Barrowman, an offshore entrepreneur on the Isle of Man, is part of a financial consortium that supports PPE Medpro. But his lawyers said the allegations were “largely untrue”.

The Commissioner for Standards of the House of Lords launched Baroness Monet in January following a complaint from Labor colleague George Folkes.

Folkes asked the commissioners to investigate whether Maun may have violated the Code of Conduct for Lords by not declaring participation in the company and by lobbying for public procurement.

According to the Code of Conduct of the House of Lords, colleagues must follow seven principles of standards in public life, integrity and openness.

The code states: “They must not act or make decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family or friends. They must declare and resolve all interests and relationships. “

Baroness Monet’s “personal office” told the Mirror in an email: “Baroness Monet has declared her interests and has done nothing wrong.”

The government has been criticized for awarding contracts worth billions of pounds without proper scrutiny and for running a “VIP strip” for PPE suppliers, which was declared illegal earlier this year.

Just over 55% of the more than 38 billion PPE items purchased for more than £ 12 billion went to first-line staff.

The Court found that 1.5 billion PPE had expired, while another 3.6 billion items were stored as unfit for first-line use.
