Microsoft is constantly trying to get more people to use the Edge. Some of the ways in which he pursued this goal have been less accepted than others, but his recent efforts to do so may be a useful addition to the software. On a support page spotted by The Verge, the company revealed that it was adding a free built-in VPN service called Edge Secure Network to its web browser.
The company says the tool will encrypt your internet connection. You can use this functionality to protect your data from your ISP. As with most VPNs, you can also use Edge Secure Network to mask your location, making it possible to access services that might otherwise be blocked in the country where you live or visit.
If you find yourself traveling frequently, Edge Secure Network may not replace a paid VPN. The feature limits you to 1GB of data usage per month. It is also worth noting that you will need a Microsoft account to use the service. Microsoft has not yet begun testing the VPN. But once the feature is available, you will be able to activate it via the three-point Edge icon. A new option called “Secure Network” will include a VPN. When you’re done browsing, it will automatically shut down again.
