The following is a list of schools that will be closed earlier due to the threat of bad weather:
SECOND LEXINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT
Due to forecasts of strong winds and strong storms this afternoon, which could make the trip dangerous, two schools in Lexington will close an hour earlier on Friday, May 6.
The time for dismissal will be 13:10 for primary schools, 14:10 for secondary schools and 14:50 for high schools.
Afternoon and evening activities are canceled for Friday. Expect more information on Friday’s opening hours for the Lexington Two SCHSL playoffs today.
LUXINGTON DISTRICT SCHOOL DISTRICT THREE
Emergency management officials are forecasting severe weather this afternoon as a line of strong thunderstorms moves from the west. Harmful wind gusts are included in this forecast.
As a result, and in our quest to get all of our Panther students and staff back home safe this afternoon, we will be dissolving our schools today (Friday, May 6) an hour earlier than normal. Please see below for specific dismissal hours for each school:
- Primary school BL will dismiss the students at 13:15.
- Primary school BL will dismiss the students at 13:30.
- BL Middle School will drop students at 2 p.m.
- BL High School will sign students at 14:15.
Anyone with questions can contact their child’s school. As always, we thank our families for working with us as we strive to keep our Panthers safe and healthy.
FOURTH SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LEXINGTON DISTRICT
The district issued the following statement:
There is a significant chance of bad weather this afternoon and it is forecast to start before the bus routes usually end. Gusts well above 40 mph are likely in some of these storms. To provide time for buses, students and staff to safely complete their afternoon journey before the storm arrives, schools will follow the early dismissal schedule below.
The Lexington Four, in coordination with all Lexington County school districts, will move to a 1-hour early dismissal for all schools today, Friday, May 6, 2022.
In addition, all post-school and athletic activities have been canceled for today.
Center for early childhood – 13:00
Sandhills Primary / Primary School – 1:15 p.m.
Francis Mack Intermediate – 2:30 p.m.
Sandhills High School – 2 p.m.
Swansea High Freshman Academy – 2:15 p.m.
Swansea High – 2:30 p.m.
LUXINGTON-RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT 5
The National Weather Service predicts severe weather, including winds of 60 miles per hour, for parts of the Lexington-Richland School District’s five-member attendance area this afternoon and evening. The threshold for driving a school bus is a gust of 35 mph. Of great care, school district five will release an hour earlier today May 6, 2022 As a result, schools in School District Five will be laid off as follows:
- Departure of all high schools at 1:30
- All primary schools leave at 1:45
- Released at Academy for Success @ 2:20 p.m.
- Departure of all high schools at 2:30
- Departure from Spring Hill High School at 2:30 p.m.
- All other high schools leave at 2:45
Schools and offices will also close an hour earlier. FIVE will work normally.
All extracurricular programs and sporting events are canceled.
Parents will be notified of any additional delays in picking up the school bus by the school district’s automated telephone system.
