Miguel Cabrera became the 33rd player in MLB history to score 3,000 goals on Saturday, delivering a single from Colorado Rockies’ right-hand man Antonio Senzatella on the right in the first inning of Comerica Park in Game 1 of the double-header.
Cabrera sent the third pitch of the bat against Senzatela at 1-1, on the ground between first and second base for history. Former teammate Jose Iglesias, a 2013-18 tiger, was the first to embrace Cabrera on the field.
The 39-year-old Venezuelan footballer is one of the greatest strikers of all time and is perhaps the best right-handed striker of his generation. His resume worthy of the Hall of Fame is in order: the 20-year-old MLB veteran is a longtime icon of the Detroit Tigers, triple crown winner, World Series champion, two-time MVP, 11-time All Star and seven-time Silver Slugger.
“It’s a story,” said Jaimer Candelario, Tigers’ third baseman. “He’s a member of the Hall of Fame for me, for a lot of guys, for everyone.”
“When we’re long gone, they’ll still be talking about Miguel Cabrera,” said Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman. “In 100 years, they will still be talking about Miguel Cabrera. It only happens every hundred or so years.”

MIGGY GO BOOM: How Miguel Cabrera’s Epic Baseball Journey Began in Venezuela
The previous player to reach 3,000 goals was Albert Puyols, who achieved the feat with a single player on May 4, 2018. Adrian Beltre (double) did so in July 2017; Ichiro Suzuki (triple) in August 2016; Alex Rodriguez (home run) in June 2015; and Derek Jeter (home run) in July 2011.
Cabrera is the 10th player since 2000 to reach 3,000 strokes.
Of the 33 players in the club’s 3,000 hits, 20 reached the cornerstone with a single, eight with a double, two with a triple and three with a home run.
“As Tigers fans, I was proud to see Migi’s incredible and historic achievements of 3,000 hits and 500 home runs, making him one of the few MLB legends selected,” said Tigers owner Christopher Ilyich in a congratulatory statement released during the game. . “I thank Miguel for his career playing an exciting game in the Hall of Fame for our goal of championing baseball for Tiger fans. Migi is and continues to build his status as one of the greatest tigers of all time.
Saturday’s stage was followed by three singles on Wednesday night against the New York Yankees, with Cabrera climbing to 2,999 goals: a home run to third in the second inning, a clean midfielder in the middle of the fourth inning and a broken dribble between shortstop and third base in the sixth inning. . He hit the eighth inning.
Cabrera made a 0-for-3 with two outs on Thursday, coming closest to scoring in his first bat, a high-flying left field in the first inning. It was doubtful he would make it to the fourth round on Thursday, but the Tigers, leading 1-0, put two players in the scoreboard with two outs in the eighth inning to bring him out for the last time. Yankees manager Aaron Boone deliberately bypassed Cabrera, so the wait for 3,000 continued.

Seven months ago, Cabrera reached another elite stage: 500 career home runs. He hit a substitute by Toronto Blue leftist Jace Stephen Matz (now with the St. Louis Cardinals) through the right center wall of the field in the sixth inning on August 22 at Rogers Center in Toronto.
“Seeing Miguel grow from a teenager practicing cotton on Venezuela’s neighborhood courts to one of the best players in baseball history was one of the great joys of my life,” Tigers general manager Al Avila said in a statement. “His humility, passion for fun and true love for the city of Detroit are completely incomparable, and joining the hit club 3000 only strengthens his position as one of the greats of the game of all time. This is a great achievement and we know that there are many more exciting moments on the horizon. “
Cabrera is one of seven players in MLB history with at least 500 home runs and 3,000 goals, joining Puyols, Rodriguez, Hank Aaron, Willie Mace, Eddie Murray and Rafael Palmeiro. Within this club there is an even rarer club that is nearby: Only Aaron and Puyols also have 600 pairs, with Cabrera being 599.
“He is an icon in Venezuela,” said Tigers player Harold Castro, a Venezuelan. “Everyone knows him. Everyone wants to be like him. Every child who starts playing baseball wants to be like him … It means a lot to me to be around him and watch him count those numbers and make history …. I have no words to describe his career. You can’t describe his career. “
Eliza Diaz, the hunter of the Senzatella and the Rockies, is also from Venezuela.

Cabrera is a leader in hits, couples, home runs and RBIs.
“He’s number one on my side,” said Tigers starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, another Venezuelan. “The numbers tell me everything.”
GOAT IN THE D: Debate over Miguel Cabrera’s place among the greats of Detroit of all time
Tracking the main stages
A “Miggy Milestones” countdown board was installed last July at Comerica Park, reminding everyone in the stadium of Cabrera’s achievements. Every time he recorded a hit, the fans in the stands burst into applause.
Cabrera has played with Comerica Park for 15 years as his home stadium. He became a Tiger in December 2007, thanks to a deal between then-Tiger general manager Dave Dombrowski and then-Florida Marlins. Three months later, Cabrera signed an eight-year contract extension for $ 152.3 million.
He reached 1,000 hits in September 2008, then 1,500 in July 2011. By April 2014, Cabrera had made his 2000th hit. The hit № 2500 came in September 2016. His 500th home run in his career marked his 2955th hit.
Another eight-year contract extension – worth $ 248 million – was reached in 2014. The deal started before the 2016 season and transferred Cabrera to the 2023 season. He owes $ 32 million this and next season.
“It’s really special to me,” Candelario said. “I’ve been here for five years, since 2017, and being with him and being part of the last five or six years of his career has been amazing.”
Cabrera has said he plans to retire after his contact expires, but is expecting another World Series title. He won the World Series in 2003 as a rookie with the Marlins, but was swept away by the San Francisco Giants in the 2012 World Series with the Tigers.
“Before he leaves this game, we want to be in the post-season and fight for the World Series,” Candelario said. “That’s what we want right now. We’re going to do everything we can for our team and for him because he deserves it, and for the beautiful Detroit fans.”

Slager is a four-time American League wrestling champion, reaching .344 in 2011, .330 in 2012, .348 in 2013 and .338 in 2015. He has published consecutive MVP seasons in 2012 and 2013. including Triple Crown in 2012
Cabrera entered 2022 with 2987 hits. He scored four goals for the Tigers in six games to open the season, then scored three goals in the team’s first away game on April 14 against the Kansas City Royals at Kaufman Stadium. He struck another blow on April 15.
The Tigers returned to Comerica Park on Tuesday, with five goals from Cabrera from the historic stage, in six games against the Yankees and Rockies. He came out 1-for-3 on Tuesday, 3-for-4 on Wednesday and 0-for-3 on Thursday. The opening of the series on Friday against the Rocky Mountains was postponed due to rain, which led to a double bout on Saturday.
In Game 1, Cabrera registered a number of 3,000.
“The way he prepares and the way he has fun with everything is amazing what he did,” said Javier Baes, Tigers’ shortstop. “Obviously he’ll get 3,000, but we’ll see how far he gets.”
Cabrera compares well to the members of the club 500 Homers / 3000 hits / 600 pairs. Achieving 0.310 to 2599 games, he has a higher career average than Aaron and Pujols.
Aaron hit the .305 in his 23-year career; Pujols, still active and probably in his last season with the Cardinals, can boast an average strike of .297 for his 22-year career.
“His career speaks for itself,” said Tiger hunter Tucker Barnhart. “First Vote Hall of Fame, no doubt about it. For me, the thing that sticks out is how much fun he has to play. It’s refreshing.”
