SAN FRANCISCO – Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr tested positive for COVID-19, the team said Monday night.
He has entered the league’s health and safety records and will not be on the bench for match 4 against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
Associate head coach Mike Brown will take over the coaching duties. Brown recently took over as the next head coach of the Sacramento Kings.
“Actually, I just sent a message to him, I want to send him my best,” Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins told Kerr. “I hope he recovers very soon. Rest. This is the way of the world right now; COVID is still being distributed everywhere, so I just want to make sure it’s doing well. I know it’s terrible weather and other things, but I hope his spirits are still up there. “
Kerr had been wearing a mask for the past few days before the positive test on Monday. It is unclear whether he will travel with the Warriors to Memphis on Tuesday for Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals on Wednesday.
