Nanaimo RCMP suspended a teacher’s license after it was stopped and ruled to have been violated while driving while transporting students in her vehicle.
The incident happened on April 25, shortly after 11 am, when a frontline officer from the Nanaimo RCMP spotted a vehicle with a suspected driver removed near Milton Street and Fitzwilliam Street.
The officer stopped the vehicle and identified a 43-year-old local teacher who escorted four students to an extracurricular event in Nanaimo.
According to a police report, the officer investigated the driving disorder and found that the woman was outside the legal limits of alcohol in her blood to drive a vehicle.
The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside ban and her car was confiscated.
During the stop, the educator organized a new means of transportation for the students and they managed to continue their day unharmed.
“The officer in this case did exactly what the Nanaimo people expected from their law enforcement officials, as he noticed an alleged driving disorder, fully investigated the issue and took out a disabled driver transporting vulnerable youth,” Const said. Sherry Wade with Nanaimo RCMP.
“Nanaimo’s parents can sleep easy knowing that this police officer and many others like him are on the road 24 hours a day looking for drivers with disabilities.
A spokesman for the Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district confirmed to CHEK News that the teacher had not been hired in the area.
