Ontario reported 22 new deaths from COVID-19 on Thursday as hospitalizations remained close to the highest point seen in the sixth wave.
The health ministry said all 22 deaths had occurred in the past 30 days.
Five people living in the long-term care system took part.
The province reported 137 deaths in the last week and 373 deaths from COVID-19 in the last 30 days.
As of March 2020, there are 12,772 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario.
There were 1,734 patients admitted to Ontario hospitals with a positive COVID-19 test on Thursday, four more than Wednesday and 72 more than a week ago.
Of these, 211 were in intensive care, eight declining since Wednesday and eight more than a week ago.
Ninety-two patients are breathing with a ventilator, seven less than Wednesday and unchanged from a week ago.
Meanwhile, the Ontario COVID-19 scientific chart says wastewater monitoring data show that the virus is spreading in all regions of the province except southwestern Ontario and eastern Ontario, including Ottawa.
The overall wastewater signal now appears to be at its highest point in the entire sixth wave.
Of the 1,827 cases confirmed by PCR testing on Wednesday, 275 included unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people, 307 included people with two doses of vaccine, 1,125 included people with three doses of vaccine and 120 involved people whose vaccine status is unknown.
The large number of individuals with three doses tested positive for COVID-19 correlates with the fact that the strongest populations (elderly over 70 years, immunocompromised, health workers) are also those who still qualify for free PCR testing in the province.
Provincial laboratories processed 23,230 test samples in the last 24 hours, generating a positive result rate of 15.2 percent.
The health ministry said 34,168 people received doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday.
Of these, 1,216 received first doses, 1,625 received second doses, 4,202 received third doses, and 27,125 received fourth doses.
The numbers used in this story are in the Ontario Department of Health’s daily epidemiological summary COVID-19. The number of cases for each city or region may differ slightly from that reported by the province, as local units report figures at different times.
