The NFL’s point spreads reached the board of sports bookmakers on Thursday shortly after the league published its schedule for the 2022 season. Week 1 is full of home outsiders.
Ten home teams are outsiders in week 1, the most in the first week of the Super Bowl era, according to a study by ESPN Stats & Information. The Texas of Houston and Chicago Bears are the biggest outsiders in the household in Week 1. The Texas are outsiders 7.5 points from the Indianapolis Colts and the Bears are outsiders with 6 points from the San Francisco 49ers.
The New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos are also outsiders at the forefront of their Week 1 games.

The value of the household advantage in the NFL regular season has been declining for years, according to the betting market. The home teams benefited by just 1.65 points last season, the third lowest in the Super Bowl era, after only 2020 (1.10) and 1969 (-1.65). The hosts covered the spread in 48% of matches last season and had a record loss compared to the spread in 15 of the last 18 seasons, including four in a row.
At the opening of the season on September 8, the defending champion in the Super Bowl Los Angeles Rams is the favorite with 1 point ahead of the visiting Buffalo Bills.
The accounts are the consensus favorites to win the Super Bowl in bookmakers. In the Caesars Sportsbook, Buffalo has raised more than the amount of money spent on winning the Super Bowl than any other team.
“This is a big year for them and certainly a big stage for them to open the season in the Super Bowl champions,” said Adam Poulenc, assistant director of marketing at Caesars Sportsbook, in a statement. “They’ll have to prove it right away.”

While the Bills are favorites, the longtime Jets are attracting the attention of bettors. Borg in Atlantic City, New Jersey, has more bets on the Jets to win the AFC than any other team, and only the Bills have raised more bets on the Super Bowl than the Jets. The Jets are outsiders with 5 points against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.
