Niagara police charge murder after man found dead in Weland

Niagara police have filed charges against a murder suspect after a male victim was found dead at a home in Weland late Saturday night.

At around 11:40 pm, riot police were called to a home in the area of ​​Podeliene Street and Alexander Street.

When they arrived, they found two injured men with serious injuries. One of the victims was pronounced dead on the spot, and the other was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

One suspect was found at the scene and was detained.

Police said Sunday that Joel Driver, 33, was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

He was detained pending a bail hearing in Hamilton on Sunday.

Niagara police said there was an increased police presence at the scene as they continued the investigation but did not believe there was any continuing threat to public safety.
