CHICAGO (WLS) – A large police presence was in front of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Sunday night in the Steeterville neighborhood of Chicago.
The hospital was blocked but has since been canceled, police said.
Officials responded to the incident in block 200 on W. Huron Street around 8:40 p.m., after a telephone threat was made to the hospital, according to officials.
The hospital said it had been placed in “armed offender” mode, sparking a response from Chicago police and a fire.
Northwestern hospital officials issued a statement about the incident, saying:
“Earlier this evening, the Northwest Memorial Hospital was alerted to an armed intruder. Hospital security, the Chicago Police Department and Northwestern University Police responded immediately and confirmed that there was no active threat. At this point, the hospital has resumed normal operations.
Police also confirmed that there was no active threat.
“A systematic search was carried out in all areas of concern and no threat to public safety was identified. At the moment, all staff is accountable, “said CPD.
