Northwestern University suspends “active threat event” warning for Chicago campus after car theft suspect arrested – Chicago Tribune

Northwestern University has lifted its “active threat” alarm after a car theft suspect was detained on his Chicago campus Monday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Officers pursuing the suspects tried to stop traffic near Jean Baptiste Point DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Chicago Avenue around 1:30 p.m., but the suspect fled the vehicle, police said.

The 19-year-old man crashed into the pavilion of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Feinberg and was there for about 30 minutes before being detained, police said.

A gun was found in the car, police said. Accusations are pending.

No one was injured on the campus of Northwestern University, where the incident took place, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The original theft of the car took place around 12:50 pm in the 2000 block on West Arthur Avenue in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, police said.

There was no more information about the theft of the car.
