Norway eliminated Canada from the mixed doubles curling world championships

GENEVA – Canada will not reach the podium at the Mixed Doubles World Championships after Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Galant missed 6-5 against Norway in a qualifying match on Friday.

Norwegians Maia and Magnus Ramsfjell made a short raise at the end and scored two for the win.

“We are happy with our performance this week, but not our best match here today,” said Peterman. “It’s disappointing. We were hoping for a better result.”

Norway stole a pair at the sixth end, but the Canadians used their power play in the seventh to strike for two and take a 5-4 lead.

Norway returned home and put the pair to victory at the Sous-Moulin Sports Center.

“I just lost my traction weight at the sixth and eighth ends and they were able to make a few good punches and adjust some angles,” Galant said. “It’s disappointing. I thought we played very well the first five ends, and then there were four or five draws missed by me in the sixth and eighth ends, and (I) left Jocelyn with a few hard shots.

“They capitalized when they had the opportunity.”

Germany’s Pia-Lisa Scholl and Claudius Harsch defeated Sweden’s Isabella and Rasmus Vrano 11-8 in the other qualifier.

In the semifinals, Swiss Alina Paetz and Sven Michel beat Norway 8-7 in the extra time. Germany missed by 8-3 to Scots Yves Muerhead and Bobby Lamy.

Norway and Germany will play for bronze on Saturday morning. Scotland and Switzerland will meet for gold later in the day.
