Roach’s father, Phil Roach, added that his daughter’s performance on the popular quiz show was “an incredible run beyond our wildest dreams.”
Matea Roach is the eldest of four children. Her parents say that when she was about 18 months old, Roach was able to recognize letters and understand basic math such as addition and subtraction.

“She probably started reading when she was three and was always interested in … just learning to enjoy learning, wanting to know things and being fascinated by talking to people or listening to people and learning,” her father said. said.
McKinnon, a federal government official, said her daughter has always loved books, and that love grows stronger with age.

Roach’s parents enrolled her in a private school a year before she could start public school. He is involved in dance, football, band, choir and musicals. She travels and participates in the debate team of her school, where she thrives.
She also skipped two classes, her parents said.
“What you see on TV is the real Matea. She is charming, modest and a real earthy, warm person. She is not like, you know, some genius or genius who is just a source of knowledge,” said her father. who works in HR.
During the show on Friday, Roach recalled that as a child she played with her father a 1986 version of the Canadian board game Trivial Pursuit. he did not say he owned.

“We all just live it because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, none of us would ever expect that to happen, and it’s just amazing,” McKinnon said.

Roach talks about repaying student loans with his profits. McKinnon said her daughter was frugal, so she wasn’t too surprised by the plan. She expects Roach to invest the money, some of it probably in real estate, return to school and travel.
