Numerous arrests during Operation Street Cleaning in Southern Alberta

The RCMP in Nanton, Cleresholm and High River made several arrests and handed down some heavy speeding fines on Thursday during Operation Street Cleanup in southern Alberta.

Efforts were focused on finding people wanted by warrant, verifying compliance with the conditions for release and targeting aggressive drivers.

Arrests include:

  • A 42-year-old woman from Claresholm was arrested on 14 unexecuted orders and detained after a bail hearing;
  • A 40-year-old man from Nanton was arrested on 26 unexecuted orders and detained after a bail hearing;
  • A 48-year-old woman from Nanton, arrested on a warrant awaiting a bail hearing on Friday afternoon, and;
  • A 47-year-old man from Claresholm was arrested on a warrant, which he was released with a promise to appear in the provincial court.

Police also received reports of a known prolific offender driving in violation of the release conditions, but the driver fled when officers tried to stop traffic.

The vehicle got stuck in a wooded area northwest of Claresholm and the driver fled on foot.

After a four-hour search, the RCMP police dog Monti was brought in and located the suspect.

A 59-year-old man from Claresholm has been arrested and charged with:

  • Escape from the police;
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Three points for non-compliance with an exemption order
  • Driving an uninsured vehicle on the highway;
  • Driving without a license;
  • Driving a vehicle with incorrect use of a registration number, and;
  • Driving a vehicle without registration.

He remained in custody on Friday afternoon pending a bail hearing.

Two drivers were also stopped for speeding, one at 172 km / h and the other at 180 km / h.

No names were released.
