Ontario health officials say 1,167 people with COVID-19 are currently in the hospital, including 207 intensive care patients.
The total number of patients with the disease decreased significantly on Sunday from 1,563 hospitalizations reported on Saturday.
Officials noted that not all hospitals reported their COVID-19 data over the weekend and that the number of hospitalizations could be underestimated.
Meanwhile, the number of people in the intensive care units across the province rose very slightly on Sunday from 204 the day before to 207.
Authorities also reported 10 more deaths due to COVID-19. Nine of the deaths occurred in the last 30 days, while one of the deaths occurred more than a month ago.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 12,972 people have died from the disease.
The province reported 1,938 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, but health officials warned that the number was underestimated due to limitations in testing and lag.
With 12,827 processed in the last 24 hours, the health ministry says the positivity rate in the province is about 12.2 percent.
In the Greater Toronto area, officials reported 423 new cases in Toronto, 159 new cases in the York region and 135 new cases in the Peel region.
All other regions reported less than 100 new cases on Sunday.
The province estimates that another 2,503 cases of the disease have been resolved as of Sunday, bringing the number of patients cured in Ontario to 1,237,805.
Today’s report puts the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases in Ontario at 1,274,910.
The province reported 114 resident cases and 22 cases of staff in long-term care facilities in Ontario. Two of the 10 deaths reported on Sunday involved residents in long-term care.
Officials said at least 200 long-term care homes are currently dealing with the outbreak.
