What is the LIV series?
The branch chain will start in London in June, at the Centurion Club near St. Albans.
It will start on June 9, one week before the US Open, with a portfolio of £ 19 million for a field of 48 people.
Seven more LIV Golf events will follow, going to the United States (four events), Thailand and Saudi Arabia.
Each of these seven will cost £ 19 million. There will be a prize pool of £ 23 million for the first three players in the first seven events.
The eighth event will be a team championship with a prize of £ 38 million – TBC place.
Each event will be richer than the four specialties.
The PGA Tour and its European equivalent, the DP World Tour, have threatened to ban Ryder’s Cup for anyone who signs up for the Saudi series with mega money.
The six-time big winner Mickelson is unlikely to play in Rome next year, but risks his future chances of becoming captain of the United States.
He did not play for Saudi International in February and is on holiday from the sport following comments in a book calling the Saudis “terrible scumbags.”
Mickelson’s agent Steve Loy said in a statement yesterday: “Phil Mickelson is officially registered to play in the PGA Championship as well as in the US Open.
“We also applied on his behalf for exemption for the first LIV Golf Invitational.”
Mickelson missed his first Masters since 1994 earlier this year.
The Masters website showed three-time winner Mickelson, listed as a past champion who had not played at the Augusta National Golf Club earlier this month.
Mickelson also lost several sponsors as a result of his comments, and as Dustin Johnson and Bryson Deschambo quickly joined the game’s biggest names, pledging their loyalty to the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy felt the proposed secession was “dead in the water”. .
However, with the proposed league postponed until 2024 in favor of extremely lucrative individual events, some players were tempted to seek relief from PGA and DP World Tours to play at the Centurion Club.
Although these editions may be reluctantly provided, several future LIV Golf events are planned for the United States, and PGA Tour regulations state that its members cannot participate in a controversial event in North America.
Mickelson has also registered for the upcoming PGA Championship and US Open.
