Just hours after climbing the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in a dress by Jonathan Simhai, decorated with crystals, singer Phoebe Bridgers personally met with the draft opinion of the Supreme Court on annulment Rowe vs. Wade.
“I had an abortion last October while on tour,” Bridgers tweeted, posting in his Instagram story Tuesday afternoon. “I went to planned parenting, where they gave me an abortion pill.
“It was easy. Everyone deserves such access.”
The message from the 27-year-old Bridges followed a report Monday night Politico details a draft decision written by Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr., in which five conservative Supreme Court officials agreed that the nearly 50-year-old abortion case should be overturned. On Tuesday, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. confirmed the document’s authenticity and said the court was investigating the leak.

News for The court’s ruling reiterated concerns about access to abortion pills provided by the Food and Drug Administration in the mail in December through telehealth consultations. However, as some states restrict abortion rights, access to the pill is under threat, but is still being sought. In Texas, for example, studies show that thousands of women received the pill online after the state passed a law restricting access to abortion.
Bridgers, who in her social media posts encouraged her followers to donate to abortion rights funds, said she took the abortion pill to terminate her pregnancy in the fall.
The Kyoto singer has been outspoken about abortion rights for the past few years. Last year, Bridgers announced that the proceeds from her cover of “That Funny Feeling” in Net Blix’s special “Inside” by Bo Burnham will go to Texas Abortion Funds, which will distribute the money to 10 organizations. In a statement on his release, Bridges said, “This is for Greg Abbott,” referring to the governor of Texas, a Republican who signed a bill in May banning abortion as early as six weeks after pregnancy. In 2020, Bridgers partnered with indie rock band Bright Eyes for a song in favor of Planned Parenthood.

Bridgers is not the only celebrity to take part in the debate over abortion. Upi Goldberg, who speaks openly about her 14-year-old abortion, gave a passionate monologue to The View on Tuesday morning. The actor and co-host told the essence of deer the decision was to give people “somewhere safe and somewhere clean” to have an abortion.
“It has nothing to do with your religion. “It’s not a religious issue, it’s a human issue,” she said. She went on to say that abortion was “a difficult, terrible decision that people make”.
Actor and activist Mark Ruffalo also took part, tweeting: “Forced births and illegal abortions across the country are back and cruel. The Supreme Court has become a division. “
Screenwriter, director and actor Amber Tamblin wrote on Twitter that the court ruling “declares war on more than half of its citizens.”
“We will fight and we will not stop. NEVER, “she added.
