Perth County Provincial Police say four London men have been charged with stealing more than $ 25,000 worth of tools from parked vehicles in Huron County.
Shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday, patrols by the Perth Provincial Police Department in Ontario found a vehicle moving incorrectly on Perth Road 164. Police say the vehicle took off when they tried to stop it.
Around 8 a.m., the Huron County OPP was notified of a series of thefts committed earlier this morning. Investigators found that several vehicles parked in the Queen Street business in the town of Howick had been broken into. During the accident, windows of vehicles were broken and tools worth about $ 26,000 were stolen.
Meanwhile, back in Perth County, officers found the suspect’s vehicle, which he spotted earlier this morning, stuck in a field outside County Route 170. Police say four suspects were spotted fleeing the vehicle.
Four men were found and arrested with the help of the OPP’s dog training department, the Western Region Emergency Response Team and calls from the public reporting suspicious activity.
As a result, men aged 32, 35, 36 and 41, all from London, face a total of 20 charges, including theft of more than $ 5,000, possession of property obtained through a crime of less than $ 5,000, an accident of less than $ 5,000 along with other charges.
Three of the accused were released from custody on a scheduled date in Stratford. A fourth suspect has been detained in police custody pending a bail hearing.
