Police have issued a public warning for a series of swarm-style robberies in Vaughan

Police in the York area are warning the public about a series of robberies in which the victims are “buried by a large group of young people.”

Police said several similar incidents involving street-level robberies in squares and sidewalks in the area of Jane Street and Norwood Avenue were reported on June 11 and June 18.

In one of the June 11 incidents, police said a victim of a man was leaving a restaurant with food to take home when he was “aggressively attacked by a group of young people demanding alcohol, cigarettes and food.”

Police say the victim put the food in the back seat of his car, at which point “the crowd started kicking and hitting the vehicle”, causing extensive damage.

“A teenager opened the back door and stole the victim’s food. The victim tried to get her food back, but was chased, attacked, attacked and her wallet was stolen, “a press release said Friday afternoon.

Police said a 16-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the June 11 robbery and charged with accident and disorder.

Other suspects in this and other robberies, however, remain unclear.

Police are urging all additional victims of swarm-type robberies to come and talk to investigators.

“Officers will remain active and aggressive in these areas to combat this problem,” the press release said. “Investigators continue to work with community members and business owners in the area to gather video surveillance, report incidents and detain those responsible for these crimes.
