Police in Paris opened fire on a vehicle that tried to hit them – killing two passengers and injuring a third, according to local media.

The incident happened near Pont Neuf – in the center of the French capital – on Sunday night.

The dead are believed to be the driver of the car and a passenger sitting in the front seat.

A witness told Le Figaro: “A car was parked in the wrong direction along Pont Neuf’s Vert-Galant square, and police approached to control those present in the vehicle by pointing automatic weapons at it.

“The driver rushed to the police at full speed. The police fired immediately.”
