Police presence grows around clash of old bakery on Gore Street (9 photos, update)

Update: Wellington Street East is still closed between Bruce Street and Dennis Street and the public is urged to avoid the area at this time.

Four police ships were on the scene as an investigation into a car crash at the bakery began this morning.

The Ballistic Armored Tactical Transport (BATT) arrived on the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m.

The police officers took out their weapons while actively investigating the area.

Original story: Emergency services were called to the crash site of a vehicle on the corner of Gore Street and Manila Terrace around 8:30 a.m. this morning.

It looks like the car has crossed the sidewalk and entered the entrance to the old Toni’s Cakery, which will soon be reopened as the new location of Thyne’s Family Bakery.

The front end of the vehicle was severely damaged and pieces of bricks from the building were scattered throughout the scene.

An officer at the scene said a police dog was on his way to help with the investigation.

Gore Street is blocked at both ends as police continue to search the area.

East Wellington Street is also closed, starting at Dennis Street.

Police confirmed that the second street closure was related to the incident, but did not provide details on why the closure was necessary.

No casualties have been reported so far.
