The Duke of York has tested positive for Covid and will no longer attend the Queen’s Jubilee Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Friday, Buckingham Palace said.
A palace spokesman said: “After taking a routine test, the duke has tested positive for Covid and will unfortunately no longer attend tomorrow’s service.
Of course, Andrew has seen the queen in the last few days, but he has done regular tests and has not seen her since he tested positive. The 96-year-old queen tested positive for Covid in February and later said it had exhausted her.
Andrew was expected to join the family at the event, although he was not invited to the color ceremony at the Horse Guards Parade on Thursday. He then did not join other members of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the RAF Spring.
The queen decided in advance that there would be only working royalty on the balcony. Andrew was stripped of his HRH title, royal patronage and connections after paying millions to settle a US civil lawsuit filed by Virginia Juffre, who was trafficked by pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein and accused the prince of encroaching on her when she was 17. The duke denied the allegations.
He retired from public life after the disastrous interview with Newsnight in 2019 about his friendship with Epstein.
