Prince Harry revealed that he would see the queen for the first time in two years, saying he simply wanted to “make sure she was protected”.
The Duke of Sussex was joined by his wife Megan to visit his grandmother while on their way to the Invictus Games in the Netherlands last week.
The couple has not been together in the UK since retiring as senior working royal members in January 2020.
During an interview with Today’s Hoda Kotb host of the Games, Prince Harry discussed his travels and life in the United States.
He told Ms. Cott that it was “great” to be back with the Queen and she was “in great shape,” but he wanted to make sure she had the “right people” by her side.

“Megan and I had tea with her, so it was really nice to catch up with her,” he added.
As early as March, the Duke and Duchess were especially absent from the memorial service for his grandfather, Prince Philip.
A spokesman for Harry said then that the prince hoped to visit the queen soon.
“My home is in the States for now.”
Also during the interview, the duke spoke about his life in the United States, saying he was “welcomed with open arms” and has a “great community” in Santa Barbara, California, where he lives with Megan and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

The interview comes during the Invictus Games, a sports competition for wounded veterans founded by Prince Harry.
Founded in 2014, it aims to help rehabilitate wounded or sick soldiers or veterans from around the world by giving them a chance to compete in Paralympic-like events.
The entire interview will be broadcast this Wednesday morning.
