The IRSP was to be joined by the Republican Flute Band of James Connolly, the Flute Band of James Hope, the Flute Band of Craigneuk and Cairde na hÉireann.
PSNI officers were on the ground while a police helicopter watched the IRSP parade and will now investigate “suspected crimes”.
“Police attended an informed parade in the Falls Road area of Belfast on Sunday, April 17,” a PSNI spokesman said.
“A police operation was launched, including gathering evidence. We will now review the footage, and based on initial observations, we have launched a criminal investigation into suspicions of crimes during the parade.
“As is normal for notified parades, we will also prepare a report to the Parade Committee on the parade.
Huge crowds are expected to take part in the Easter celebrations to mark the 106th anniversary of the 1916 uprising.
Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou MacDonald will address a memorial to the Milltown National Cemetery Association on Sunday afternoon.
