Quebec director Jean-Marc Vallett has died of natural causes, the family said

The family of renowned Canadian director and producer Jean-Marc Valais says his sudden death at Christmas was due to natural causes.

In a statement released today, his family said the investigator concluded that Vale had died of “a fatal cardiac arrhythmia caused by severe coronary atherosclerosis.”

They say the finding is in the coroner’s final report on Vallée’s death at his hut just outside Quebec City over the weekend of the 2021 Christmas holidays. He was 58 years old.

Vallee directed a series of high-profile films and series after his breakthrough LUDO, winning an Emmy for directing the hit HBO series Big Little Lies. His 2013 drama, The Dallas Buyers Club, won numerous Oscar nominations.

Born in Montreal, Vale studied film directing at the Collège Ahuntsic and the Université du Québec à Montréal.
