Ralph Rangnik is ready to turn his back on the two-year consultation at Manchester United and become the new manager of Austria.
It is assumed that Rangnik is considering the offer from the Austrian federation and an official announcement can be made as early as Friday.
The 63-year-old German has four more games as United’s interim manager – starting with Thursday night’s clash with Chelsea – before taking on an indefinite advisory role at Old Trafford in the summer.

But Ranknik was tempted by the opportunity to succeed Franco Foda as head of Austria and could sever ties with United at the end of the season.
The Premier League club declined to comment on Thursday.
The Austrian FA has rejected speculation earlier this month that Rangnik met with their sporting director Peter Schotel in Manchester, but FA President Gerhard Miletic is expected to announce the new coach in Vienna on Friday, and speculation is growing that the former Schalke boss and RB Leipzig can get the job.
Rangnik’s advisory role has remained somewhat unclear since he joined United from Lokomotiv Moscow in December as a temporary replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rangnik was hired in November, but struggled to inspire his team to finish in the top four.
It was thought that he could take on a higher role and even have a big say in choosing a new manager, but Rangnik admitted that he did not even talk to Eric ten Haag.
In fact, the terms of his contract with United for the next two years include work for only six days a month.
On this basis, he could complete both tasks, although this scenario seems unlikely.
However, it would be a shock if Rangnik leaves to become Austria’s coach, after he said recently on Friday that he wants to remain part of United’s organization after the arrival of Ten Hague.

“Of course, I would like to be part of the process that needs to happen,” Rangnik said. “But at the moment I don’t know how this is really assessed.
“That’s the question, and it’s also important how Eric Ten Haag sees it. Does he like to talk to someone like me? Do you want to work together?
“How much does Eric ten Haag and the board want my opinion and my experience?” This is what we have not talked about.
“I am interested and feel a lot about this club after these five and a half months. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
