Paul Pogba has played his last game for Manchester United and will leave Old Trafford as a free agent this summer.
Interim manager Ralph Rangnik has confirmed that Pogba will miss the rest of the season due to a calf injury he suffered in a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday, and expects United’s record signing of £ 89 million to be in vain when his contract expires in June.
This lifts the curtain on a desperately disappointing second period for United, which broke the world record to re-sign Pogba of Juventus in 2016.

Rangnik said: “The doctor told me it would take at least four weeks to recover, and the last game is at the end of May. I don’t think it’s very likely that he will play again.
“As it turns out, he will not renew his contract. Maybe the club or Eric (ten The Hague) won’t want to renew their contract, I don’t know. He probably won’t be here next season.
Rangnik blamed Pogba’s latest move as a United player for contributing to Liverpool’s first goal at Anfield when the Frenchman failed to tell referee Martin Atkinson that he was injured.
“It was never part of the game’s plan to stand in the middle of the line, especially since Pogba was already limping across the field,” added Rangnik.

“He had to lie down or sit down, but he was trying to limp behind the referee and tell him he was injured. In fact, we were one player down and we were still attacking high. ‘
Rangnik confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will be in the team to face Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday after missing the match with Liverpool after the death of his newborn son.
Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the news on Monday night and the striker returned to training on Wednesday.
Rangnik also offered his support to Harry Maguire after the United captain and his family fell victim to a bomb threat.

Cheshire police were called to Maguire’s home on Thursday, and specially trained explosive dogs searched the garden and the surrounding area.
Rangnik said: “I only learned about this horrible, horrible thing on Thursday afternoon and I couldn’t talk to him. This is another bad sign for the crazy world we live in. I’m sorry about Harry. He knows that everyone is behind him.
Maguire even lost to teammate Eric Bailey after losing to Liverpool. Bailly responded to an Instagram post urging Rangnik to play with him and Rafael Varane instead of Maguire against Arsenal, writing “please” along with a praying emoji.
Rangnik said: “If it’s true, it shouldn’t happen in a football club, no matter which league.”
