Police are looking for a blue truck that may be linked to two suspicious fires in the Westwold area.

On May 2, shortly after 2:30 p.m., police received a signal that an unknown person was setting fire to cut piles, said Vernon-North Okanagan spokesman RCMP Const. Chris Terlesky.

One fire broke out on Douglas Lake Road and another on Westwald Station Forest Service Road.

“BC Wildfire Service staff responded and quickly and successfully controlled the fires, preventing them from spreading,” Terleski said in a statement on Tuesday.

During their initial response, police received unconfirmed reports that a small blue pickup truck driven by a woman had been seen leaving the vicinity of the two fires.

Many units and the RCMP Air Services helicopter searched for the vehicle without success.

No additional information about the vehicle or the suspect was revealed.

“We are incredibly concerned that someone will deliberately start these fires,” Terleski said. “After the devastation and devastation caused by forest fires last year, we appreciate and understand how terribly disturbing this is for residents. We are actively investigating the incidents and are contacting the public for any information that may help us to continue this investigation. “

Anyone who has been in the area and witnessed something suspicious, or has information related to fires or a suspicious vehicle, should contact the Enderby RCMP office at 250-838-6818 and cite police file NR2022-2366 .
