Republicans in the House support abortion exceptions for rape, citing personal experience

Republican Republican Nancy Mace (SC) said Sunday that she supports exceptions to abortion bans on rape and incest and to save her mother’s life, citing personal experience with rape when she was a young girl.

Asked if she thought the exceptions to the abortion ban on rape and incest victims should be codified by federal law, Mace told moderator Margaret Brennan on CBS’s “Absolutely Face” Nation.

Mace said she was raped and cited the emotional, mental and physical trauma she suffered as a result.

“I am for life, but I support the rape exceptions. I myself am a victim of rape. And when you realize what happened in your life, the trauma, the emotional, the mental, the physical trauma in a woman’s life, that decision – she has to make that decision with her doctor and between her and her God, “Mace said.

“And I have worked to support these exceptions in my life, not only as a state legislator, but now as a member of Congress,” she added.

Pressed to support federal legislation in Congress to enforce abortion exemptions for rape, incest and maternal life, Mace was quick to say yes before emphasizing that Roe’s repeal against Wade would send the decision to each state.

“Well yes. And I think – I think one of the things that’s missing, and I’m glad you’re raising that in the whole conversation, is that the media coverage of Rowe’s repeal against Wade is what it’s doing – it’s not a complete federal abortion ban, but it brings it back to state legislatures and Congress, ”Mace said.

The conversation comes after Politico published a draft Supreme Court ruling showing that a majority of judges voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. Although the opinion is not final, it signals that the court is ready to overturn almost 50 years of precedent.

Mace made headlines for her position on abortion in November after arguing with Marjorie Republic’s Taylor Green (R-Ga.).

The incident began when Green tweeted that Mace “is not conservative, she is for abortion.” The announcement came after Mace criticized Republican Lauren Boubert (R-Colo.) For an anti-Muslim remark made by the Colorado Republican against Republican Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).

“Out of your league,” Green wrote.

Mace responded to the blow, correcting his grammar and writing in part: “And while I’m correcting you, I’m a fiscal conservative for life who was attacked by the left all weekend (as I often am) as I opposed China while in Taiwan . ”

She also said that Green’s words were an example of “bat madman”, replacing the phrase with emoji for bat, poop and clown.
