The proposed four-story apartment building with 38 units at the corner of Dundas Street East and Burnham Street at the east end of Belleville is facing resistance from residents in the neighborhood.
Foster Avenue resident Leslie Lewis told the Planning Advisory Committee on Monday that the building was too big for the neighborhood and “a greedy attempt to put a lot of people in a small space.”
The investor wants smaller two-bedroom apartments than allowed by zoning regulations
Other residents had problems with traffic and parking.
Meanwhile, Spencer Hutchison, an RFA Consulting designer and developer, said the property is ideal for a small residential building.
If approved, as presented, 12 of the 38 units will meet the criteria for affordable housing.
No decision has been taken and staff recommendation on the proposal will be provided at a future meeting of the Planning Committee.
