ARLINGTON, Texas – On his return from a 14-month break and retinal detachment, United Champion Erol Spence Jr. made a number of statements on his return home on Saturday about where he is in the welterweight division.
Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) expanded his control as a powerful player by 147 pounds, combining his WBC and IBF titles with the WBA belt of Jordanis Ugas (27-5, 12 KOs) in their exciting knockout in the 10th round. a game opponent at the AT&T Electric Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
A native of nearby Desotto, 32-year-old Spence exchanged huge shots at close range as he tried to make a statement against the brave Ugas, who shook Spence in Round 6 with a wave of blows that killed his mouthpiece. In Spence’s honor, he never fell and continued to close Ugas’ right eye, forcing referee Lawrence Cole to stop the fight at 1:44 a.m. in the 10th round on the advice of the ring doctor.
