Ronnie O’Sullivan may be in hot water with snooker bosses after he was caught making an obscene gesture on live television.

The rocket faced David Gilbert in his match of the first round of the 2022 World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield, which he eventually won 10-5.

During the 13th frame, although visibly annoyed by the routine black pass from the scene, O’Sullivan made a gesture that was noticed by some viewers.

One such viewer was professional Matthew Celt, who shared the video on his Instagram show, sarcastically adding, “What an ambassador.”

O’Sullivan’s victory was his 70th in Crucible, which put him on par with Stephen Hendry for most of every player in the spiritual home of the sport.

Mark Allen was “kicked out” of Crucible on the first day of the tournament before his opening match, Ronnie O’Sullivan predicted a “slaughterhouse” at the World Cup while comparing to Formula One.

His 30th appearance in Sheffield also coincides with the assessment of Steve Davis, and the 46-year-old is bidding to add a seventh title to his collection after returning to the world No. 1.

This isn’t the first time O’Sullivan has gotten into trouble for the gestures he made.

He was fined £ 2,750 and scored 700 points in 2008 after making obscene gestures and comments at a China Open press conference.

Five years later, Crucible referee Michaela Tab warned O’Sullivan of a gesture he made during his semifinal match against Judd Trump.

O’Sullivan made 122, 64, 104, 66, 54, 58, 109 and 81 breaks in the second round after surprisingly falling behind 3-0 early in the game.

“I don’t worry much about the records, I have enough,” Rocket said. “Stephen Hendry was my hero, so if I tie his seven world titles great, if not, some of me will be happy if he keeps it.

“I’ve assembled this toolbox over the years and removed wrenches, hammers, small hex wrenches more mentally than technically. When you are a grandfather like me, you draw from your experience.

“He’s like a Gladiator there. It’s like Russell Crowe… he has a hole in his hand, he knows he’s going to die, but you just have to find a way sometimes.

“I think I can play a lot longer than I thought I could, I will keep hanging around and be an obstacle like maybe Tiger Woods and it will be a pain to play against.”
