Vulnerable children are mistakenly receiving sex hormone therapy from the NHS, Sajid Javid said as he prepared to launch an emergency investigation.
The health secretary considers the system to be a “failed child” and plans to review the way in which health workers deal with people under the age of 18 who question their gender identity.
Javid is believed to liken political sensitivity to gender dysphoria to fears of racism in Rotherham over haircut gangs.

Clinics in London, Leeds and Bristol, run by the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust, are the only specialist services in England for children and young people who identify as transgender.
