The Republican campaign in the Senate has released a three-page note received by Axios outlining how candidates and MPs can maximize their announcements about the expired draft U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Rowe v. Wade.
Why it matters: The National Republican Senatorial Commission (NRSC) acknowledges that the decision will have major implications for the midterm elections this fall and the 2024 presidential race.
- “Be compassionate, build consensus on abortion policy … While people have very different views on abortion policy, Americans are compassionate people who want to welcome every new baby in the world,” it said.
- “Expose Democrats of the extreme views they have,” the document said, saying “Joe Biden and Democrats have extreme and radical views on abortion, which are beyond the reach of most Americans.”
- “Violently refute the Democrats’ lies about the Republican Party’s position on abortion and women’s health,” he said, adding that Republicans did not want to take contraception, mammograms and women’s health or throw doctors and women in jail.
Between the lines: The document includes a sample language for anti-abortion advertisements.
- “Sarah the Republican,” in an ad against John Democrat, must say, “Here’s my opinion – I’m for life, but in reality, forget about political labels, we’re all for life.”
- An NRSC official told Axios that the note was “based on national surveys and focus groups that the NRSC has conducted across the country over the past few months.
- Democratic Senatorial Committee spokeswoman Nora Keefe told Axios: “Senate Republican candidates have spent months campaigning to repel Rowe against Wade – and now this election will determine whether the Republican Party is able to impose new, brutal and punitive restrictions. . “
- “No note can change the fact that Republicans are not keeping up with the voters who will decide the 2022 election, and that will defeat their campaigns.
