Snap, the social media company of Snapchat, has unveiled a drone named Pixy, which is specifically designed for selfies.

Snapchat, which recently backed Apple for App Store pricing, released Pixy at its Snap Partner Summit 2022. The $ 50 drone was unveiled in a session on Snap’s latest creator tools.

“Raise the level of your photos, expand your audience and raise money for your creativity with the latest features for Snapchat creators,” the company said on its summit website. “Also, get to know Pixy – the latest way to take your creativity to new heights.”

Pixie weighs 100 grams (0.22 pounds) and is approximately the size of a person’s palm. It is not yet clear how the user starts the flight, nor what control he has over its direction or duration.

Once completed, however, Pixy can return to the user’s outstretched hand. Snap says he then began transferring his footage, although again it is not clear how this works. It will probably be transferred to the user’s phone, but it is possible to upload it directly to Snapchat.

Pre-orders are accepted now, but Snap cites approximately 11-12 weeks before delivery.
