Jif peanut butter producers are urging Canadians to check their latest purchases, as they are issuing withdrawals of some products due to potential salmonella contamination.
JM Smucker Co. issued a voluntary withdrawal on Saturday for a number of peanut butter products sold in Canada, including creamy, light and crunchy peanut butter products.
The company, which issued the seizure in collaboration with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, said the jars with batch codes 1274425 to 2140425 should be discarded immediately.
The Canadian withdrawal is after an outbreak of salmonella in the United States, affecting 14 people in 12 states, which is associated with peanut butter Jif.
Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting and in rare cases can cause arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis and urinary tract symptoms. Users who would like to report symptoms or have questions are encouraged to contact Jif.
