Someone named Osvaldo has just launched a campaign for mayor

Osvaldo Grandinetti, who rejoins the Municipal Council after his name was withdrawn from a fish tank in 2017, will appear in the newsletter in 2022 as Ozzy Grandinetti

A gentleman attended the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Center on Tuesday and said he wanted to run in the October 24 municipal elections.

He presented the necessary two identity documents.

His official name was Osvaldo.

But he wanted another name on the ballot.

“This is allowed,” Tessa Vecchio, the city’s corporate communications officer, told SooToday.

“If you usually have a name other than your legal proper name, you can use that name as long as the employee agrees,” said the official Ontario government’s guide to 2022 municipal council and school council candidates.

So Ozzy Grandinetti, a former city councilor in District 6, began her official campaign for Salt City Hall.

Osvaldo / Ozzy made headlines in 2017 when he was reappointed to the City Council after his name was drawn from a clear glass bowl.

As Darren Taylor of SooToday reported a week ago, Grandinetti is running for mayor on austerity.

Describing himself as “angry”, he opposes the center square, the relocation of the transit terminal and any tax increase in 2023.

Grandinetti is one of two candidates who submitted nomination documents Tuesday for the October 24th local elections.

The other was Susanne Salituri, who is seeking re-election as trustee of the Conseil scolaire Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario.

Nominations for the first day were accepted on Monday, ward 3 count. Matthew Shoemaker has submitted his candidacy for mayor.
