A South Carolina police officer was killed in the line of duty after answering a domestic riot call early Sunday morning, officials said.
Officer Roy Andrew “Drew” Bar, 28, of the Kane Police Department, responded at the residence around 2:48 a.m. and made contact with a man standing in the front yard, Casey Police Chief Chris Cowan told a news conference Sunday. .
Just as he was talking to the man, several shots were fired from inside the house, one of which struck and killed Bar.
The man who shot Bar barricaded himself in the home and committed suicide after seven hours of confrontation with police. His identity has not yet been revealed.
Bar joined Casey Police Department as an intern in 2016 before graduating from the Police Academy in 2017.
A dedicated member of the community, Bar also serves as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He became a K-9 officer with his beloved partner Molly, a black Labrador Retriever.
Moneta’s volunteer fire service said Bar was the captain of their department in Aiken County, WSPA reported.

“He was committed to his profession, he was committed to his community. He was interested in nothing but serving this community and was shot and killed this morning for no reason, “Cowan said.
He had no wife or children, but “is married to the profession,” he said.
The bar survived a shooting in 2017 when he was still an intern, local news reported. The gunman in this shooting is serving a 30-year sentence in state and federal sentences.
“Our hearts are breaking in Casey,” Mayor Elise Partin told reporters Sunday. Officer Drew Bar has been an important part of Casey’s family since 2016.
Casey is a suburb with nearly 14,000 people west of the capital, Colombia.
