A South Carolina couple left the warm weather at home to escape to Gander, the place they fell in love with after watching a performance of Come From Away.
In 2019, Bronwyn Frank and Jason Harel went to their first official meeting to watch the musical in Greenville, SC Bronwyn, who works in the high school theater, watched a lot of musicals, but this was the first time Jason went to the theater. Live.
The couple from Greer, South South Carolina, said they immediately fell in love with the people and places depicted in the musical – which depicts what happened in Gander, where dozens of flights landed shortly after 9/11 – making the city the perfect place to tie the knot.
“Gander is a really special place for us because it was the first theater show we saw together,” Bronwyn told CBC News. “Getting married somewhere based on a show is just amazing.”
The Harel family had their wedding in the international lounge at Gander International Airport on April 8.
When looking for a place in Gander, Bronwyn said she had contacted the airport directly, and President and CEO Reg Wright welcomed the couple’s idea.

“[He] replied to my email within 24 hours and said, “You know, now is not the season to come here and get married, but we would love to have you,” Bronwyn said.
Along with its unique location, the Harrells have also strayed from some conventional wedding traditions.
Unable to travel with real flowers, Bronwyn carried a bouquet of wooden ones. She also chose a black and white dress with 1440 crystals glued to it by a friend.
During the wedding, the couple was also “screamed” by Beula Cooper, Oz Fudge and Brian Mosher – three people who inspired the characters in Come From Away.

“It was amazing. More than we expected, but amazing, “said Jason. I couldn’t even imagine it would be as cool as it used to be.
The newlyweds, who flew to St. John’s, spent the week traveling through the countryside as part of their honeymoon, visiting Goobies, Dildo and Bonavista, among others.

They hope to return to Newfoundland soon to learn more about the island.
“Honestly, I cried the night before we left,” Bronwyn said. “I was not ready to leave Newfoundland.”
