Staffordshire police are investigating allegations that the driver of a minibus “passed straight over” a family of ducklings crossing the road | United Kingdom news

Police are investigating allegations that a minibus driver “crushed” three ducks by mowing them as they crossed the road.

Staffordshire police said officers were notified of the incident in Trentham, a southern suburb of Stoke-on-Trent, on Friday.

Pictures of the ducks lying on the road were shared on social media after they were posted on Facebook by a man named Stephen Wally.

He said other drivers had stopped to miss the family of seven ducks, but the driver of the white van “couldn’t wait” and instead “went straight over them”.

Mr Wally wrote: “I was just driving an A34 in the Trentham Gardens roundabout when a family of seven ducks crossed the road.

“All the traffic stopped to allow them to cross, but disgustingly, this van driver, after initially stopping, couldn’t wait for the five seconds it would take him to let them cross, and drove straight over them. crushing three of them. “

Mr Wally added that he had tracked the vehicle to a nearby site and had described what he described as a “very heated conversation” with the driver of the van.

Staffordshire police acknowledged that the incident was an “emotional problem” and advised people not to “take matters into their own hands”.

Police said in a statement: “We know of a publication that was distributed to a minibus driver believed to have killed a duckling in Trentham.

“We have contacted the author of the publication and identified potential violations of the Law on Wildlife and Rural Areas.

“We understand that this is an emotional issue for many people, and please do not take matters into your own hands.”
