OTTAWA – Every year the baby boom in Canada blows out another candle, the country’s population grows older.

Today, Statistics Canada will reveal how much older we are.

The agency is scheduled to publish the next set of findings from the 2021 census at 8:30 a.m. EDT.

The 2016 census showed that for the first time in Canada, older people over the age of 65 outnumber the nation’s youth aged 14 and under.

The latest issue will detail how fast Canada’s population has aged since then and what kind of housing people live in now.

A new census item will provide details on transgender and non-binary populations.

The figures could help shape government policy and ensure the recognition of non-binary populations.
