Suspicious death of St. Peters Road

A 33-year-old Charlottetown resident has been taken in for questioning as city police continue to investigate a suspicious death on Thursday night.

Charlottetown police say they received emergency calls with a woman around 8pm on Thursday. The ensuing investigation led them to St. Peters Road, where they found a 32-year-old woman in “medical care.”

The woman was transported to the hospital by Island EMS and was later pronounced dead.

The main criminal unit in Charlottetown took over the investigation with the assistance of the Judicial Identification Department. They were at the scene on Friday.

An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.

“The investigation is still ongoing. The cause of death is still being determined,” said Police Chief Brad McConnell.

“IN [woman’s] the remains are currently in Dartmouth undergoing a forensic autopsy. We expect these results. Our investigators are questioning several people in this regard. “

McConnell said a 33-year-old man had been detained for questioning. The man and the woman knew each other. No charges have been filed so far.

“We will interview people, collect video from the area and try to gather the facts and establish a timeline for all the people around this investigation,” McConnell said.

“Again, this is very early in the investigation.”

There is no danger to the public in connection with the incident, police said.

McConnell said it could take “several days” before police receive the final results of the autopsy.
