Thandiwe Newton denies being fired by Magic Mike over Chan Tatum dispute over Will Smith | movie

Actor Tandiu Newton has denied reports that she was fired from Magic Mike’s new film after a dispute over Will Smith with his colleague Channing Tatum.

Newton said she left the film after 11 days of filming in London of her own free will.

“Tandiu Newton has made the difficult decision to retire from the production of Warner Bros. Pictures Magic Mike’s Last Dance to address family issues,” a spokesman said in a statement.

Representatives of the actor called the reports that she was fired by Tatum, who is also the producer of the film, “completely inaccurate.”

The report, which first appeared on the Sun, suggests that Tatum and Newton were at loggerheads when they discussed last month’s Oscars incident in which Smith hit Chris Rock on stage after a joke made about his wife’s alopecia. .

A source called the disagreement a “confrontation” and added that Tatum said, “I don’t work with her anymore.”

Salma Hayek will take on the role of Newton.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance sees Tatum return in the role of male stripper Mike Lane, as well as a return to the franchise for the original director Steven Soderbergh, who left for the second film.

The two films grossed more than $ 300 million worldwide. A lucrative stage spin-off, Magic Mike Live, had concerts in Las Vegas, London, Berlin and Australia.

Speaking to People magazine, Tatum expressed hope that the new film would be like the “Super Cup of Undressing”, with much higher quality routines than before.

He also described the films as “very, very feminine” and stressed the importance of a strong female role for him.

“I want to have an equal, if not more centralized, female character that Mike can really play, and I almost don’t want to say, [to have her] take the baton, but really let the film be about the women’s experience, not Mike’s experience, because it was so much about Mike’s and the boys’ experiences. ”

Newton is currently starring with Chris Pine in the Amazon hit All the Old Knives.
