The AirTag firmware update improves unwanted tracking warning

Apple released a new AirTag firmware for consumers this week, but details of the update were not known. However, the company has already confirmed that AirTag’s latest firmware (version 1.0.301) improves unwanted tracking alerts.

In rare cases, Apple has published official notes on what has changed with the latest AirTag firmware update on its website (via MacRumors). There, the company revealed that AirTag Firmware Update 1.0.301 adjusts the beep when an unwanted AirTag is detected so that one can easily locate it.

AirTag 1.0.301 Firmware Update:

Set up unwanted tracking sound to make it easier to find an unfamiliar AirTag.

Requires iOS 14.5 or later.

Since AirTag was introduced, we’ve seen some good and fun stories related to the product. Unfortunately, some malicious people have used AirTag to track others without consent. As a result, Apple announced new anti-harassment measures to prevent anyone from using AirTags to track people.

For example, iPhone users are already receiving a warning if an unknown AirTag is found traveling with that person. The company also introduced an Android app to allow more people to identify unknown AirTags. Users can then trigger an audible signal on this AirTag to find and discard it or take it to the authorities.

It is worth noting that AirTag firmware updates are distributed to users in stages. To get these updates, make sure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS and that your AirTag is in the Bluetooth range of your phone.
