A Calgary animal rescue society is appealing to the public for financial support to care for a large number of cats that have found their place in its shelters.
The Canadian Animal Task Force (CATF) says it’s been a challenge this year when a family member of a pet owner reached out for help.
An official from the organization says the caller was distressed and “desperate for help” so CATF cannot ignore them despite the huge financial strain it would cause.
“We couldn’t say no in this situation. The cats had nowhere to go, their owner recently passed away, leaving dozens of cats in need of help,” RJ Bailot, executive director of CATF, said in a statement.
CATF says all surrendered cats require medical attention, including vaccination and parasite treatment along with spay and neuter procedures. Some of them need more serious interventions like dental work and medication, the group says.
“We are asking for the financial support of the community to help us raise much needed funds, as such a large intake will have a major impact on our resources,” Baylott said. “It’s important to us that every animal gets the care it deserves and we’ll do everything we can to make that happen.”
Once all cats have received appropriate care, CATF will work with partner agencies to ensure that every cat is adopted.
As the group seeks support, a local realtor says he’s doing his part to help by creating his own CATF campaign.
Heather Waddell says she will match donations dollar for dollar up to $10,000 to what is needed.
