The arrested couple from the RCMP in Alberta were found sleeping in a vehicle allegedly involved in bumping and running

RCMP officers in southern Alberta have arrested two people found sleeping in a vehicle allegedly involved in a crash and run earlier in the day.

The 2010 Chevy Silverado pickup truck, which was parked on the side of Range Road 281 near Nanton, was reported to police around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The RCMP says investigators arrived shortly after and found a man and woman sleeping in the truck, which was “significantly” damaged.

Both residents had arrest warrants, and the RCMP said they possessed varying amounts of illegal drugs, including what was suspected to be fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine.

“Further investigation has established that the suspect vehicle was involved in a collision and running accident earlier in the morning,” a press release said.

27-year-old Ashley Quilty, without a fixed address, has been charged with a number of crimes, including possession of a controlled substance and failure to stay at the scene.

Clayton Jordan, 39, of Lethbridge, faces multiple charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a smoke grenade in violation of a restraining order.

Both Quilti and Jordan are due to appear in Fort McLeod County Court on May 4.
