The bad bunny to play Ali El Muerto from Spider-Man in the photo of Sony’s Marvel – Deadline

Seeking to continue to expand and diversify its Marvel character universe, Sony has announced that the film El Muerto is under development, with Latin Grammy winner and platinum salesman Bad Bunny attached to the star. The news came from Cinemacon during the Sony panel, where Bad Bunny appeared surprisingly.

El Muerto’s character, also known as Juan Carlos, was a super powerful wrestler who initially fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match in which he almost unmasked the cobweb before being stung by Spider-Man with a paralyzing poison. After his oppressor El Dorado came to take his own life, he was saved by Spider-Man, after which the two teamed up to defeat Dorado.

El Muerto will be the first Latin superhero to receive his own film in the Marvel character universe after Sony recently released Madame Webb, marking the first female character from the Spider-Man universe to receive his own film.

Although El Muerto is not as popular as Venom or Kraven the Hunter, Sony’s rush to put this film into development had much to do with Bad Bunny’s persistence in finding this suitable superhero trait for himself. The superstar will make his major studio debut in the long-awaited action film Bullet Train on July 29, a project in which Sony is very high and has already led Aaron Taylor-Johnson to star in Kraven the Hunter. The same situation seems to have happened to Bad Bunny with executives who are extremely tall in the final shots of Bad Bunny from the film.

After recent meetings to come up with a vehicle starring him, the multi-hyphenate took matters into his own hands and began digging Spider-Man’s library for Latin characters that would suit him, eventually encountering El Muerto. The studio liked the idea and hoped to move quickly along the project, given Bad Bunny’s busy touring schedule and acting.

In addition to Bullet Train, he was recently seen in Narcos: Mexico and has Cassandro dating Gael Garcia Bernal. He also recently completed his El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo.

It is represented by UTA and Rimas Entertainment.

Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panich, who introduced Bad Bunny to the stage tonight, said El Muerto will be released on January 12, 2024.

Benito Antonio Marinez Ocasio, also known as Bad Bunny, told Panitch that working on Bullet Train is “an amazing experience. David (Leich) is great. I loved working with him on my first film and now with this opportunity to revive El Muerto. It’s amazing, it’s amazing. I love fighting. I grew up watching wrestling and I’m a fighter. I am a former champion and that is why I love this hero. I think this is the perfect role for me and it will be epic. “
