The Board of Education fires the head of schools in DeCalb County; name temporarily – WSB-TV Channel 2

DECALB DISTRICT, GA – Decalb County School Board fires superintendent Cheryl Watson-Harris. The move came during a virtual meeting on Tuesday.

The shooting was effective immediately. Board members voted to appoint Dr. Wasan Tinsley as interim superintendent.

“We appreciate Ms. Cheryl Watson-Harris for her service in the DeCalb County school district and wish her well in her future endeavors,” said Board Chair Vicki B. Turner. “The board has the most confidence in Dr. Tinsley, who serves as interim superintendent. Ms. Watson-Harris’s immediate departure will have no bearing on the search for the next overseer. The board remains fully committed to an open and transparent process and the support of DCSD students. ”

In a press release, the district did not give a reason why the board decided to fire Watson-Harris, but said he was confident that Tinsley could intervene without any problems.

“Tinsley has extensive experience in DCSD, having previously served as deputy superintendent of student support and intervention in the county,” the district said.

Watson-Harris was baptized superintendent for DeKalb schools in June 2020

Prior to his employment in DeCalb County, Watson-Harris served as First Deputy Chancellor, Senior Director of Maintenance and Executive Director of Brooklyn for the New York Department of Education.
