The heart of the family since the father of two died in downtown Nottingham

The broken family of a man who collapsed on a street in the city after a quarrel speaks of his tragedy. The father of two, Ricardo Coteral, 33, has died after being stabbed during a brawl with a group of men on Broad Street in central Nottingham shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday (April 24th).

He fell a little later on Lower Parliament Street and was pronounced dead on the spot. A man has been arrested in connection with the murder investigation, Nottinghamshire police confirmed.

Ricardo’s sister Felicia Coteral, speaking on behalf of the family, said: “Ricardo’s loss has completely devastated our family. He was the father of an eight-year-old and an 11-year-old who adored him. He was a much-loved uncle, brother, son and grandson.

“It is difficult to accept that we will never see him again – he was taken so young. Ricardo always had a smile on his face and was a loving man and would do anything for his family and friends. As a family, we now need time to come to terms with what has happened, and we would ask people to let us grieve in peace.

This comes as visitors and workers in downtown Nottingham voiced their fears after the incident.

Kevin Reeve, a regular visitor to The Newmarket on Broad Street, said: “We’ve been told the man has collapsed here and it’s obviously worrying. It’s a terrible accident. “

The 66-year-old man from St. Anne said he had to cancel his trip to the pub on Sunday afternoon due to police presence in the area. “You can still see the remains of the cordon, even on the doorknob.

“I think it’s getting more dangerous to go out at night. In fact, I don’t know what it is. I personally leave the pub before 4 pm because I don’t feel comfortable going out at night. “You tend to see eccentric behavior at night in Nottingham,” he said.

He expressed his condolences to the man’s family and friends, adding: “It is obviously very sad to hear about the passing of such a young man. All my thoughts and prayers are to his family.”

Joan Beard, a Rough Trade supervisor on Broad Street who worked on Sunday, added: “I noticed the police cordon because I didn’t have access to the street, so I had to go back to get to work. We were expecting a busy day on Sunday morning and fortunately it didn’t affect the traffic so much. “

The 32-year-old man continued and said: “I would say that of all the areas in the city center, Lower Parliament Street and the Hockley area are on the more cunning side. There was a mass attendance on Sunday morning and it was quite disturbing in the afternoon. All the streets were blocked, but I think our customers came from the city center and the old market square, so it didn’t affect us so much, “he added.

Naz Afzali, a chef at the Dolce restaurant on Broad Street, added: “I am worried because I have heard of many incidents taking place on this street. It is worrying when it continues to happen in the same area. “

The 40-year-old man said: “This area is very surrounded and sometimes we are afraid. It’s not as safe as it used to be.

“I’m really sad that the man died. Obviously I hope his family is well.”

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Detective Claire Dean said: “Our thoughts are with Ricardo’s family at this incredibly sad time. Dedicated family liaison officers work with them to provide support and guidance as the investigation progresses. A team of highly qualified detectives is working incredibly hard to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident that led to the fatal stabbing of a young father.

“In addition, officers also patrol the city center more regularly to ensure a reassuring uniformed presence. We have already arrested one person in connection with the investigation, on suspicion of helping an offender, and we are actively looking for the number of other suspects in connection with the investigation.

“To help us detain these people as soon as possible, I would urge anyone with information to come out. Did you witness the quarrel or people fleeing the area? Do you have a recording from your mobile phone or camera? Have you noticed a sudden and suspicious change in the behavior of someone you know? Or have you seen social media or heard people suggest who they think is responsible? Any information that people can give us can be vital to bringing offenders to justice. “

Anyone with information has been asked to call 101, citing incident 55 of 24 April 2022, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
