Drivers are collectively planning about 21.46 million leisure trips by car this weekend, the highest number for the Easter holiday since the RAC first began tracking motorists’ plans in 2014, according to a RAC study.
Good Friday – the first banking holiday since the beginning of the year – appears to be the busiest day of the long weekend, with drivers planning around 4.62 million individual leisure trips, followed by Monday (3.96 million) on Saturday and Sunday, each of which sees about 3.63 million car trips.
An additional expected 5.6 million trips will be taken by drivers at some point between Friday and Monday.
RAC spokesman Rod Dennis told the Telegraph: “Although we expect the largest number of car trips for Easter tomorrow – around 4.6 million – it is clear that some drivers want to escape before the bank holiday.
“Apart from the closure of the coastal M20 for Operation Brock Zero, earlier collisions have caused problems on the south-eastern M25 and the roads connecting to it, as well as on the A303 in Wiltshire.
“In terms of breakdown, we see a great demand for our services in the North of England, especially around the Lake District as well as the coastal areas of West Wales!”
“Our patrols are working hard to reach members as quickly as possible, but we urge all drivers who set out to ensure that their cars are” ready to go “to avoid getting damaged and queuing in the first place. . It is worrying that three out of 10 drivers tell us that they do not do any checks on their vehicles before embarking on long journeys on Easter. “
